This week the worlds top golfers descend on Florida’s TPC Sawgrass for the tournament they call ‘the fifth major’. The iconic course is considered one of the most difficult in the world and will provide a stern test to all the top names.

Tiger Woods will enter as favourite as always but in truth there are so many players who can be considered as genuine contenders. Masters Champion Adam Scott will want to build on his impressive start to the year, while the British challenge will be led by Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood. In reality, potential winners of the event can come from even the more outside prices with the bookmakers. Former major winner Martin Kaymer can be had for as high as 100/1 while last years Masters Champion Bubba Watson at 66/1 demonstrates how truly open the world of golf is at the moment.

Sawgrass is a golf course which captures the imagination of every golf fan. The seventeenth hole in particular stands out as the signature of the course. The “Island Green” is the kind of hole that makes viewers tune in as one by one, the masters of the sport take on possibly the greatest challenge of a hole in all of golf. Completely surrounded by water, simply avoiding the lake is considered an achievement.

This week could provide a feast of golf on a par with the majors on the calendar. Golf is extremely competitive at the moment, with so many players in form and with genuine chances of success this week. Sawgrass provides an idyllic setting and a stern test, both factors which can add up to a thrilling four days of golf.
