John Terry must never play for England again

It has been reported that John Terry wants to make an England return, coming out of international retirement to represent his country again. For so many reasons, the Chelsea man should never be allowed to come back to England fold.

John Terry has brought nothing but dishonour and disgrace to England. He, after all, is a man who has been stripped of the captaincy not once but twice. What makes him think he can now return again? The first time he was removed of the captaincy was for allegations of an affair with the wife of England and Chelsea team-mate Wayne Bridge. Following this, manager Fabio Capello gave the captaincy to Rio Ferdinand. Terry should never have been given the captaincy back. Ferdinand had done nothing to deserve having his role taken away, purely missing games through injury. Capello made a huge mistake giving the armband back to the Chelsea skipper.

Having done so, Terry disgraced himself again, racially abusing Rio Ferdinand’s brother Anton. The FA made the decision to strip him of the captaincy again and Terry retired from International Football. The general reaction was: good riddance.

Why on earth would he think that anyone wants him back now? His England record his poor, not entirely his fault but he has not made England a significantly better team for his presence. As captain, he led England to their failure to qualify for Euro 2008. Added to that the fact that he is now, nowhere near good enough to make the England squad. He doesn’t even make the Chelsea team.

Terry was a top-drawer centre back, but that is no longer the case. England are also not short of options in defence. There are a number of young options who are all playing more regularly and frankly better than John Terry. England don’t need a past it centre half who has disgraced the England fold time and time again.

This smacks of Terry and his camp attempting to cause trouble for the FA whom he was angry with over their decision to take the armband away for the second time. As a player at Chelsea he has been sidelined and so he cannot possibly have genuine ambitions to return for England. It’s just not realistic. Therefore he can only be trying to stir up trouble. The FA and Roy Hodgson need to stamp this out quickly.

They need to come out and say that John Terry will not make an England return and will not be considered for selection. He should not be allowed anywhere near an England camp he has left in turmoil on so many occasions. England may not be firing on all cylinders at the moment, but under Roy Hodgson and Steven Gerrard seem to be a settled and happy camp. Bringing John Terry back into that fold would be like a cancer, destroying the fabric of the team they are trying to build. Under no circumstances should John Terry be allowed to pull on an England shirt ever again.
